ACL Return to Sport · San Luis Obispo County

Cleared Isn't the Same as Ready.

Finishing rehab is a milestone, not the finish line. Code 8 bridges the gap between PT discharge and full competition with force plate symmetry testing, motion capture and progressive, coached training, so you go back with proof, not a guess.

The gap

Where Most Comebacks Go Wrong.

Athletes are often sent back once the calendar says it's time. But strength and landing mechanics can still be uneven between legs, and that's the kind of gap that raises re-injury risk. We measure it, train it and retest it.

01

Leg-to-leg symmetry

Force plate testing shows how much work the injured leg is really doing in jumps and landings.

02

Landing and cutting

Motion capture shows knee and hip mechanics the eye misses.

03

Re-acceleration

Laser-timed sprints and change of direction show whether speed has come back.

04

Progressive loading

Coached strength and power work that builds back gradually, checked against your numbers.

How it works

Rehab Ends. Training Takes Over.

Clearance

We start once your surgeon or PT clears you to train, and we stay in contact with them.

Baseline

Symmetry, landing and speed testing to see where you really are.

Rebuild

Coached sessions in small groups, built around your gaps.

Verify

Retests show what changed, so the return decision is backed by data.

The research

Built on ACL Science.

Coach Chris White is a PhD candidate in Exercise Physiology at LSU, researching exercise parameters, serum biomarkers and ligament health relevant to ACL rehabilitation. Code 8's methods are advised by two PhD researchers at the LSU School of Kinesiology.

Questions

ACL Return to Sport FAQ.

Is this physical therapy?
No. Code 8 is not a medical provider. We work with athletes after their surgeon or physical therapist clears them to train, and we coordinate with your PT and medical team so the plan picks up where rehab leaves off.
When can I start?
Once your surgeon or PT clears you for training. Athletes often start right after PT discharge, which is usually when structured support drops off.
How do you know when I'm ready to play?
We don't guess. We test left-right symmetry on force plates, check landing and cutting mechanics with motion capture, and time your sprints and re-acceleration. Those numbers go to you, your family and your medical team to support the return decision.
How long does it take?
It depends on the athlete, the injury and the sport. We retest regularly so progress is visible, and we won't promise a date the numbers don't support.
Is this only for ACL injuries?
No. The same testing applies to hamstring, other lower-body injuries and athletes returning from concussion clearance. ACL is where Coach Chris's research is focused.
