What it measures

What the Eye Can't See. The Plates Can.

Every jump and landing produces thousands of data points. We focus on the handful that matter for performance and staying healthy.

01

Jump height and power

How high you jump and how much power you produce relative to your bodyweight. The baseline for speed and explosiveness.

02

Braking and landing

How quickly and how well you absorb force when you land or decelerate. Poor braking is where a lot of non-contact injuries start.

03

Left-right asymmetry

Whether one leg is doing more of the work. Big gaps are a red flag, especially after an injury.

04

Reactive strength

How fast you can absorb force and explode back out, the quality behind quick first steps and repeat jumps.

Questions

Force Plate Testing FAQ.

What is a force plate test?
You jump, land and hold positions on a pair of lab-grade plates that measure how much force you produce, how fast you produce it and how evenly each leg shares the load. Code 8 uses Hawkin Dynamics force plates, the same systems used at the NFL Combine, in NBA training centers and across college athletics.
Who should get tested?
High school athletes who want verified numbers for recruiting, college and pro athletes managing a season, and athletes coming back from injury who need proof they're ready. Younger athletes start with Strength School first and typically begin full testing around 8th grade.
How often should an athlete retest?
Every quarter. Each Code 8 athlete is baselined, then retested on a fixed cycle with the same protocols and equipment, so the before-and-after numbers are a fair comparison.
What do I get after the test?
A report that puts your pre and post numbers side by side across 7+ metrics, explains what they mean and names the top priorities for your training. See real examples on our Results page.
Does force plate testing tell you if I'm at risk of injury?
It can't predict an injury, but it shows the things that raise risk: one leg doing more of the work, hard landings, and force that's absorbed poorly. Those are trainable, and retesting shows whether they've improved.
